Portal to portal

On our Christmas 2013 trip to Germany, I discovered two things...

Giant abstract oval tiled "mandala" designed by my high school friend Viola Delgado* - a portal at our gate.

Strange bathroom lighting + mirrors create the interesting infinity reflection "rabbit hole" at the Frankfurt Airport Hilton

I saw them again this year. Once again they marked the beginning and the end of a trip, an adventure. **

We received the email on Tuesday, the 8th. "It happens on the 14th," said MC. "I understand if you cannot make it."

In a couple of hours tickets had been purchased, YC's flight home had been changed, bosses had been notified, hotel reservations were completed, and bags were packed (OK, bags were partially packed).

We were on the plane on the 11th.

Our trip was a blur of making connections and behaving appropriately (which my friends know is often difficult for me). We listened to speeches and watched flags fly and saw flags exchanged. The smiles almost never left our faces as we watched the serious face of this middle child. We listened to him plan. We watched him take charge of his men.

It wasn't exactly "Wonderland," but it was "wunderbar."***

[OK. There were some walks. Those posts will follow.]

** We went through one portal and out another - down the rabbit hole and out again. Remember Alice?
