Amberg - doors and windows

I still cannot believe how perfect was the posting of MC in a place of such beauty and history. In reviewing the pictures of the trip, I discovered many interesting doors and windows. I can see a project for a future visit.

A garage? I love the weathered doors.

Window in St. Martin's Church. This church is a Gothic confection. The stained glass windows are protected by mesh screens on the exterior, but the beauty of the construction is visible still..

Part of the family walking through a Gothic archway.

Door of the smallest hotel.

I believe the American Army marched through this town gate at the end of WWII. A well placed defense could have prevented or delayed the American advance. Perhaps the populace was exhausted or simply ready for the war to be over.

"Windows" in the old city wall. I believe the bottom one is an arrowslit. If not, I am sure someone will tell me.

Door in the city wall. I wondered its purpose, though there are dwellings built into and against the wall now. This is not a place where you can walk around the city within or atop the walls.

No discussion of Amberg is complete without mention of the Stadtbrille, "the town spectacles." This was originally part of the city's fortifications.  Boats pass through these arches, so they are doors on the river.

An old (1300? 1500?) building undergoing renovation.

Family walking through yet another arch.

Wonderful weathered shuttered windows.

Timber frame construction. The picture windows below disclose the florist shop downstairs.

More shuttered windows.

Opened door to an archway.

This trip to Amberg was quick. Between family celebrations and recovering from jet-lag, we didn't have a lot of time for much organized touring...maybe the next time.
