It has been raining for about 24 hours off and on. We are glad to see it. But dogs must still be walked.
We waited for a break in the clouds and headed down the street to the park. After about 1/8 of a mile the drizzle started, then it sprinkled, then it started raining. We continued on.
DH is sick. He picked up a cold just as our vacation ended. But he needed the fresh air as much as the pups so I gave him cold medicine, encouraged him to overdress and he joined the wet dog parade.
No one was out except a lone runner (come on, it is the last day most folks can sleep late) and we forced ourselves to make it to the park before turning around.
The city has started its Christmas tree mulching and there was a pile of trees at the entrance to the park. One of the huge trees at the edge of the woods had fallen. We don't know for sure, but think it may have happened while we were gone. Surely we would have noticed this giant, yet another victim of the drought (?).
We startled a few white wings and pigeons snacking on fallen and cracked pecans. And a few birds twittered as we walked along.
I found a penny - heads up!
By the time we made it home we saw that lone runner heading back down our street (we had seen him at the start of the walk) and the rain had stopped.
It is time to get warm and dry and think about cooking those black-eyed peas.
Happy new year!
There is something about this sign that I love. |
Trees waiting for the shredder. |
Bird's next on the ground, but not the way my mother meant it. |
Count:
Lots of newspapers still in the yards (either the paper carrier was late or everyone is sleeping late)
5 cars passed us on our way to the park
1 lone runner
pile of Christmas trees
1 huge tree fallen in the park
a bird's nest abandoned and on the ground
