Monday Walk with a Sick Puppy

Give light,
and the darkness will disappear of itself.
 - Desiderius Erasmus

Z-girl is a happy and frisky puppy. She wags here tail with her entire body. If she doesn't know you, you will likely get a back and forth wag. If she knows you, you will receive a full helicopter rotor circular spin. She walks with her tail up - a comma, a flag!

She also loves to be petted, patted, and fussed over. If you stop, she protests. She will come back and jump up - paws on your knees or waist (or worse) and expect to be acknowledged.

But not on Monday.

Her whole demeanor was sad.
Check out that tail...dragging.
On Monday her tail was down. There was no wagging. There was no insisting on attention. She had no energy, no spark.*

We debated the vet. She didn't eat much but she was eating and such. We decided to give it a little time.

Tuesday she had a little more energy, but that tail was still down. We decided to wait one more day.

Today we turned the corner. She was almost herself...

This was the first REALLY GOOD sign. She is still "off her feed," but we are optimistic.

She and Ginger palled around and even sat patiently waiting for VM to come back from her "extension" of the hike. She pushes harder than I do and is rewarded with more steps and an excited greeting from the pups, "You came back!"

Ginger and Zelda watch the path for VM to return.

NOTES:

*She completed the walk in the park each day. She had some energy, but it wasn't her usually terrier spark. And she slept - a lot.

  1. A friend shared an article about "Limber Tail Syndrome." One of the causes is bathing in water too cold or too hot. One is over exertion. So, getting stuck in the mud at the lake and struggling to get out might be the cause directly or indirectly. She HAD to have a bath. I didn't think the water was too cold, but maybe the vigorous "shaking off" could have done it. We did let her rest and she is better.
