Christmas eve morning

We are having a quiet holiday. Two of the kids are out of the country. The cat is sick and we are babying him (more on that later).

DH and I have already exchanged gifts (I am writing this on mine) and he is researching his online (Robert E. Lee's 4 volume biography by Freeman, copyright 1934-36 and a specially cast vintage Tough Hombre - 9th ARCOM - belt buckle.  DH served with them from 1984 to 1986). We will celebrate with our oldest tonight and tomorrow.

So it was a perfect time to get out in the crisp cold morning with the puppies.

We walked into the brilliant morning sun, through the neighborhood, past the barking dogs (every one of the usual suspects was awake), and into the park.

On a walk earlier this month we noticed a deer stand hidden in the woods along the dirt road beside the park. Now we found that the woods are posted (almost as the law requires - bummer) "No Trespassing." And we complied.

We moved along the woods' edge and enjoyed being out of the house (too much fussing and fretting with the cat and trying to do a few chores). The cool wind came blowing across the soccer fields. Birds were feeding in the grass - recent rains having brought the worms and insects to the surface.

On the way back through the park we noticed a goodly number of buzzards flying into the woods. We turned to head towards the park entrance and found the buzzards perched and watching. It was as if they were guarding the woods. The message was clear - don't go into the woods.

"No Trespassing" - If you didn't get the message the buzzards provided another indication that you don't want to go into the woods.

A little closer view of the watchers.

DH handed me his phone and held the dogs so I could take a couple of photos. Then we headed home to dose-up the cat and get some breakfast.

My companions - a good group.
